30. A Trip to the Pharmacy (B)

Mike: Are you ready to go to the pharmacy, Janet?

Janet: Let me just say a few words to Maria before we leave. You can go wait in the car.

Mike: Alright then.

(Mike sighs and goes to wait in the car for Janet. Janet goes to the kitchen to speak to Maria.)

Janet: Maria, I need to ask you something important.

Maria: Yes, Mother, what is it?

Janet: How has Mike been treating you? Are you happy living with him?

Maria: Yes, Mother, I truly am. Believe me when I say that Mike is the sweetest, most thoughtful man that I have ever met. Why do you even ask such questions?

Janet: It's nothing personal towards Mike. He seems like a fine, responsible gentleman. A mother just has her worries.

Maria: I love you, Mom. You have nothing to worry about. I'm in good hands. Please trust me.

Janet: I do, Maria. I love you too. I'll be back within an hour.

Maria: Okay, Mom.

Janet: Is that husband of yours a good driver? I don't want to get into a car accident.

Maria: He is a fine driver, and I thought I told you already, Mom. We are not married.

Janet: Not yet? The man'd better ask you soon. You are not getting any younger.

Maria: Mother!

(Janet gets in the car with Mike, and they both drive away.)

Mike: It's really nice to see you again, Janet. You look great.

Janet: Thank you, Mike. You don't have to flatter me. It's not necessary.

Mike: I was just trying to give you a compliment.

Janet: Well, save them for my daughter.

Mike: So how's your husband?

Janet: Bill is doing alright. He had to stay home.

Mike: Tell him hello for me when you return.

Janet: Sure thing, Mike.

(Mike and Janet arrive at the pharmacy. Janet tells Mike to stay in the car. Mike does as he is told and remains in the vehicle.)
